Kindergarten Class Program

Main Objectives

The ORCS Kindergarten class has served many young children over the years and is committed to "Building a Community of Learners" where children are encouraged to learn through experiences that provide for all their developmental needs - spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical.

The ORCS program is specifically designed and developed to allow children to succeed and to build on the many skills they bring with them. Each child is guided to develop intellectual curiosity, a positive attitude about him/herself, self-reliance, self-discipline, a sense of direction and God's purpose for his/her life.

The Christian faith is integrated into all aspects of hte curriculum and is Christ-centered so that students will have optimal opportunity to grow in their faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

Curriculum

Math

Manipulatives are the foundation of the kindergarten math program. The goal of the kindergarten mathematics program is to develop an understanding of the patterns of mathematics by using concrete materials. During the year, the children will participate in activities designed to help them see relationships and interconnections in mathematics and enable them to deal flexibly with mathematical ideas and concepts.

Science

The young child has a natural inquisitiveness about his or her physical and biological environment. The kindergarten science program is designed to develop desirable attitudes and techniques for solving problems at the child's level.

Social Studies

Social studies concerns itself with the study of people and their interactions with other people and their environment. At the kindergarten level, children can take part in a group task, observe traffic signals on a school walk, dress up as firefighters, determine the events of a class party, listen to stories about people far away or long ago. Since Christian values determine how we live, social studies lends itself easily to religious integration.

Art

Art activities can become the principal mode of recording ideas, feelings, and reactions. The kindergartener can use art as a way of communicating and as a source of enjoyment and an emotional outlet.

Music

Music is a natural means of expression for young children. It is the child's way of sensing and responding to his or her world. All of the major areas of musical development will be provided: singing, listening, creating music, participating in rhythmic activities, and playing instruments.

Language Arts

A stimulating environment is essential to language development. In such an environment, children can expand their awareness through careful listening, exchange ideas freely with their peers, create written records of their thoughts and discover knowledge through books.

Opening Songs

The more we get together, together, together,
the more we get together the happier we will be.
For you friends are my friends and my friends are your friends.
The more we get together, the happier we will be.

This is the day, this is the day that the Lord hath made,
that the Lord hath made, we will rejoice, we will rejoice,
and be glad in it. This is the day the Lord hath made,
we will rejoice and be glad in it. This is the day,
this is the day that the Lord hath made.

Closing Songs

Good bye dear friends
Good bye dear friends
We've had great fun
Our day is done
We'll meet again__________.

May the Lord bless and keep you.
May his face shine upon you.
May the Lord's love surround you.
And my you share His love too.
